Budapest, Hungary

Hi, this is Arpi

or Arpy, RP, AARP and many others

It's really Árpád. I'm honored to have your attention online. What would you like to do today?

🤔 Why “Budapest Hungry”?

One of the most annoying things a Hungarian can hear is a joke about Hungary vs. hungry. Most of us have heard these “super funny” lines thousands of times:

  • “Why didn't you eat the sandwich?”
  • “Oh, you're hungry, but you work in a restaurant!”

So calling my blog budapesthungry.com is pretty much self-abuse.

Then again, I do work in restaurants, and much of this blog is about food, drinks and Budapest, so I guess it fits, however irritating it is.

Also, the domain was a whopping $10. A sweet deal for a name that's easy to remember and super annoying. 😉

    Who am I?

First of all, I don't take myself seriously.

I try to be as nice to people as I can. I believe in karma, and there's nothing mystical about it: be nice to people and it tends to come back to you. Don't, and eventually someone won't put up with it.

I work in hospitality, yet I'm something of a loner. I spend a lot of time on my own and often travel solo. I used to travel with my mom a lot, too. Now I have Tobi, my dog. I started fostering him in the Cayman Islands in 2024 and officially adopted him in May, right before moving back to Hungary. I couldn't leave him behind, so he came with me to Budapest.
