The Christmas markets: my honest take

Sorry to break your Christmas spirit.

Right now, I'm sure a lot of you coming to Budapest are thinking about the Christmas markets. My very short opinion: if you like being squished by 1,500 other tourists, looking at food at prices that would be considered expensive even in Switzerland, then come and enjoy the spirit. Otherwise, let's look for something else.

The one near St. Stephen's Basilica is, in my opinion, one of the biggest rip-offs of the century, right around Christmas, and it's not even special. The other big one is on Vörösmarty tér. Both usually open around mid-November and run until about New Year; this year's exact dates aren't confirmed yet.

I'm actively looking for something more authentic and more affordable, and I'll update this post as soon as I've found a Christmas market I can honestly recommend.

As always, I will never post anything here that's been sponsored by anyone I don't believe in. As I always say: my integrity is for sale, but not for pennies.

Enjoyed this? Leave me a note.
